    Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple
    〈Keisei-Narita Station〉〈

Located in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, this is one of Japan’s most prominent temples and a major head temple of the Chisan school of Shingon Buddhism. Founded in the 3rd year of Tenkei in the Heian period (AD 940), this temple has long been dedicated to Fudo Myo-o and is widely revered throughout Japan as “Narita no Ofudosama.”
Its history begins when the great priest Great Priest Kancho enshrined Fudo Myo-o and performed goma fire rituals to quell the Taira Masakado Rebellion.

    Kikuta Shrine
    〈Keisei-Tsudanuma Station〉〈

Kikuta Shrine was founded during the Konin era of the Heian period (810-824), and has long been revered as the guardian shrine of this area, formerly known as Kuguta Village (Kuguta-mura). Thanks to the ancient tale of a couple who were united here, blessed with children, and lived peacefully, the shrine is widely worshipped by local people for blessings of good matches, fertility, and family safety. The enshrined deities are those of Izumo, and the shrine is also deeply revered for its benefits in warding off misfortune and bringing business prosperity.

    Mitake Shrine
    〈Maebara Station〉〈

The origins of Mitake Shrine lie in Zao Gongen, originally enshrined in the village of Yoshino in Yamato Province (present-day Nara Prefecture). Life was extremely harsh for the pioneer settlers at that time. Shinsuke Kamino of Higashino, accompanied by the ascetic monk Shakusendoryu from Kaji-bashi in Edo, brought Zao Gongen from Mount Omine in Yamato and enshrined it here as the guardian deity of the three villages in the Maebara settlement. Since then, Zao Gongen has continued to be deeply revered by people from all walks of life and has taken root in Maebara to this day.

    Kumano Shrine
    〈Tokiwadaira Station〉〈

Kanegasaku was newly developed as farmland when Hikojiemon Ishikawa, the fifth head of the Ishikawa family, originally samurai retainers of the Kawagoe Domain in Bushu, planned a land reclamation project here and settled in this area as the leader in 1782. The following year, a major eruption of Mount Asama caused severe damage to the rice fields and farmland. In order to urgently enshrine an ujigami (local guardian deity), Hikojiemon Ishikawa donated the land for the shrine, received the sacred spirit from Kumano Hongu in Kishu, and enshrined it here under the name Kumano Shrine.

    Kemigawa Shrine
    〈Kemigawa Station〉〈

Kemigawa Shrine was founded in 869, during the reign of Emperor Seiwa, the 56th emperor of Japan, in the early Heian period. At that time, a widespread epidemic was raging across the country, and nationwide prayers were offered for its eradication. Here in Shimousa Province (present-day Chiba Prefecture), the deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto was enshrined at this location, then called Saga, to pray for the removal of calamities. This place is regarded as a sacred site where divine power resounded strongly enough to dispel disasters on a national scale.

    Toeizan Kan’ei-ji Temple
    〈Keisei-Ueno Station〉〈

Kan’ei-ji is the head temple of the Tendai sect in the Kanto regionand was founded in 1625 by the great priest Tenkai Daisho. In the Edo period, the entire area that is now Ueno Park was part of the Kan’ei-ji temple grounds, but much of it was destroyed in the Battle of Ueno. Today, it still preserves many Important Cultural Properties, including the front gate of the Rinnoji Monzeki main residence and the imperial plaque gate of the Tokugawa shogun mausoleum, and continues to convey its rich history to the present day.

    Sengakuji Temple
    〈Sengakuji Station〉〈

In 1612 (Keicho 17), this historic temple was founded when Tokugawa Ieyasu invited Zen master Mon’an Sokan, the grandson of Imagawa Yoshimoto, to hold memorial services for Yoshimoto’s soul. Together with Seisho-ji Temple in Atago and Sozen-ji Temple in Hashiba, it is counted as one of the three major Soto Zen temples in Edo. The temple grounds also contain the Ako Gishi Memorial Hall, as this is where the 47 loyal retainers of Ako, famous from the “Chushingura” tale, are buried. One of the main annual events is the Ako Gishi Festival held on December 14.
